Parisian reinvention by Bérénice Curt Architecture

Parisian real estate is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for interior design professionals. From the classic layout of a small Haussmann-style apartment to the contemporary redesign of a large duplex, there is always room to innovate and offer new facilities. This is what Bérénice Curt and her agency (see interview page 60) strive to do for all projects, in agreement with the occupants of course.

This accommodation in the 6th arrondissement of the capital, of a respectable size – 90 m2 of living space – needed a comprehensive renovation... and a little imagination. Gone is the traditional configuration where the rooms revolve around a corridor, in favor of a more modern layout: here, the spaces are articulated between them in a fluid manner, without a distinct circulation zone, offering transversality and modularity. A layout designed to be able to be transformed quickly: the four versatile rooms transform into a vast living space, thanks in particular to a set of transparent walls and glass roofs, custom joinery and retractable elements for greater flexibility.

If the living room remains the central room due to its position in the square configuration of the plan, it is the kitchen which turns out to be the true heart of the apartment, with access to no less than four spaces including the bedroom and the living room. Aesthetically speaking, it was designed in a play of contrasts between the gray terrazzo floor, the immaculate tiled worktop and splashback allowing natural light to be reflected, and the polished black marble table top. The oak storage boxes bring a touch of warmth to the whole.

Certain elements of the previous layout have been preserved, such as the parquet floor or the sandstone mosaic in the bathroom, which have nevertheless been given a new lease of life. Finally, every detail of the accommodation has been carefully considered, down to the decorative elements that highlight art and design in all rooms, for a harmonious dialogue between functionality and aesthetics.
